To:  Saks High and Middle School Band members and parents

From:  Gene Inglis, Director of Bands

Reason:  Spring Band Concert!

· Place:          Saks High School “Performing Arts Center” (i.e. new gym)

· Date:  May 1, 2018

· Time:  Concert begins at 6:00PM

· Instructions and general information

WHO IS PERFORMING?  Bands from both Saks Middle and Saks High will be performing at this concert.  Both Bands will be playing throughout the concert…no one is to leave early except in case of an actual emergency!  All concerts are part of each student’s grade for band.  If there is a problem with attendance of your child, please have your child discuss the problem with Mr. Inglis and send a detailed note.  This concert will be a major test grade for our students.  Remember that band is a group of individuals working together for a common goal.  In this case, the goal is to perform what we’ve learned in band classes with our families, friends, school, and community.  Please come and support these students as they demonstrate their hard work and commitment.

WHAT TIME DO THE BAND STUDENTS REPORT?  All students are to report at the gym at 5:30pm to be seated and warm-up.

WHAT TO WEAR?  Beginning band students should wear khaki pants and their Saks Band t-shirt (if your child does not have the Saks Band t-shirt, a black or dark shirt with be fine).  Tennis shoes, clogs, and etc. are not appropriate for this concert.  Those dressed inappropriately will not perform.  Please look nice and help us avoid a problem with this issue!  Student’s grades 7 through 12 will wear their band uniform. After the concert, all uniforms should be put in the cleaners and returned with a receipt no later than May 10th.

UPON ARRIVAL TO THE GYM: leave your instrument case in your parent’s automobile.  You are to bring your instrument and music into the gym.  Mr. Inglis will seat both bands on the gym floor and parents will sit in the bleachers in front of the bands.  We want to look organized and orderly at all times.  Proper behavior will be expected and enforced throughout the concert.  Much discussion has taken place in class on this topic.

HOW LONG TO STAY:  This is an important part of the educational process and part of each student’s grade.  Students are required to stay for the entire concert.

WHAT DOES IT COST?  Donations to the band uniform fund will be accepted and appreciated.  A special thank you to those very generous parents and friends at our concert.

Thanks in advance for your attendance and support of the Saks Band Program!
